NIT Honors Parents of 26th Intake with Grand Celebration and Inaugural Ship Visit

The Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) hosted a memorable Parents' Day on 18th September 2026, paying tribute to the families of the 26th Intake trainees. The event, held at the NIT auditorium from 0830 hrs, brought together parents from across the island for a two-hour celebration of achievement, gratitude, and family pride. The day commenced with a warm welcome hosted by the Director of Studies at NIT, Capt (L) SSH Bandara, who addressed the gathering and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support parents have provided to their children throughout their training journey. The tribute underscored the vital role families play in shaping the next generation of naval professionals.

For the first two hours, parents were treated to an engaging entertainment programme featuring soulful songs, vibrant dances, powerful dramas, and theatrical acts-all performed by the trainees themselves. The performances showcased not only the trainees' artistic talents but also their discipline, confidence, and teamwork, leaving many parents visibly moved.

"We are amazed to witness our children's performances," said one parent, echoing the sentiments of many. "We never imagined they could shine on stage like this." Following the entertainment segment, the institute extended its hospitality with a refreshment break, allowing parents to mingle and share their joy with fellow families and NIT staff.

The tribute did not end there. In a gesture that highlighted NIT's commitment to holistic engagement, the institute organized a special ship visit for the parents. Officers and staff of NIT escorted the families to the Colombo Port, where they boarded a naval vessel for an exclusive tour. For many parents, this was their first-ever experience aboard a ship, making the occasion even more special.
