Director of Studies

The Director of Studies is the academic and administrative head of the Naval Institute of Technology and will be assisted by an academic as well as administrative staff. The present Director of Studies, Commander (E) RS DE Zoysa psc, MSc (D &SS), PG Dip in DM, B Tech (Mech Eng), CEng (India), MIE (I), AMIE (SL) assumed duties as the Eighteenth Director of Studies of the institution on 26th June 2023.

Commander (E) RS De Zoysa, who is a proud product of Dharmasoka College – Ambalangoda Joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet to the 31st Intake on 26th September 1999. Upon successful completion of his basic naval training at Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee he was commissioned as an Acting Sub Lieutenant in engineering branch on 26th September 2001. He had an opportunity to follow the Basic Engineering Course (BEC) at the prestigious Naval College of Engineering at INS Shivaji, India and subsequently obtained Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Mechanical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Further, he has also followed the Marine Engineering Specialization Course (MESC) at the Centre for Marine Engineering Technology (CMET) at INS Shivaji, India.

Furthermore, he has successfully completed Junior Command and Staff Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay, Trincomalee and received Post Graduate Diploma In Defence Management from University of Kelaniya. Commander (E) RS De Zoysa has successfully passed out from Defence Services Command and Staff College at Sapugaskanda and obtained Master of Science in Defence and Strategic Studies from Gen. Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Rathmalana.

In addition, he is an active member as well as a chartered engineer in the Institution of Engineers in India. Further, he is an Associate member in the Institution of Engineers – Sri Lanka.

Commander (E) RS De Zoysa has served onboard various ships, held numbers of important shore based engineering appointments and held various important training and staff officer appointments at various levels. His sea appointments namely; SLNS Shakthi as the Assistant Engineer Officer, SLNS Suranimila as Engineer Officer, SLNS Sayura as Engineer Officer and SLNS Sayurala as Senior Engineer Officer. In addition to sea appointments, he has held various responsible engineering appointments as; Marine Engineer (Fast Attack Craft), Marine Engineer (Fast Gun Boats) at various naval dockyards and further, he has held various staff and training appointments namely; Command Engineer Officer in Southeastern Naval Command, Senior Staff Engineer Officer (Training and Administration) at Naval headquarters, Senior Staff Engineer Officer (New Design) at naval headquarters and as Directing Staff at Junior Naval Staff College at Naval and Maritime Academy.
