Director of Studies
The Director of Studies is the academic and administrative head of the Naval Institute of Technology and will be assisted by an academic as well as administrative staff. The present Director of Studies Captain (L) SSH Bandara assumed duties as the Twentieth Director of Studies of the institution on 25th March 2025.
Captain (L) SSH Bandara, who is a proud product of Pinnawla Central College – Rambukkana Joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet to the 18th Intake of Kothelawala Defence Academy on 06th August 2000. Upon successful completion of his basic naval training at Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee he was commissioned as an Acting Sub Lieutenant in Electrical branch on 06th August 2002. He has obtained Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kotelawala Defence University and followed the Electrical Engineering Specialization Course (LESC) at the Centre for Electrical Engineering Technology at INS Valsura, India.
Furthermore, he has successfully completed Junior Command and Staff Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay, Trincomalee and received Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management from University of Kelaniya. He has undergone Training Technology Officer course at Kochin India. Captain (L) SSH Bandara has successfully completed Radar and Sonar Engineering Course at Naval University of Engineering, Wuhan – China in 10th September 2018 for the duration of 10 Months.
In addition, he is a chartered Electrical engineer in the Institute of Engineers – Sri Lanka. Further, he is an Associate member as well as charted Engineer in the Institution of Engineers in India.
Captain (L) SSH Bandara has served onboard various ships, held numbers of important shore based engineering appointments and held various important training and staff officer appointments at various levels. His sea appointments namely; Jetliner as the Engineer Officer, SLNS Parakramabahu as Senior Electrical and Electronic Engineer Officer and SLNS Vijayabahu as Senior Electrical and Electronic Engineer Officer. In addition to sea appointments, he has held various responsible electrical appointments as; Electrical Engineer (Auxiliary), Electrical Engineer (FAC), Electrical Engineer (Power) at various bases and naval dockyards. He had held Officer In charge of the electrical and electronic engineering school at Naval and maritime Academy. Further, he has held various staff and training appointments namely; Staff Electrical Officer (Fleet & Weapon Engineering), Senior Staff Electrical Officer (Fleet & Weapon), Senior Staff Engineer Officer (Training and Administration) Senior Staff Engineer Officer (R & D) at Naval headquarters.
