“THE DEBATER - 2025” DEBATE COMPETITION OF NAVAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

“The Debater 2025” was held at the NIT Auditorium on 17^th July 2025 at 1900 hrs, with the Commanding Officer of SLNS Thakshila gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Under the theme "English is Essential for a Better Life, " two intakes competed in a spirited debate. Five participants each represented the 23^rd and 25^th intakes.

The 25^th intake formed the supposing team, led by App. MSM Safan, while the opposition team from the 23^rd intake was captained by App. Bandusena. Each team comprised five members.

The panel of judges was appointed from officers of the Naval Institute of Technology, with one senior sailor assigned to manage timekeeping. A structured marking system was established to ensure fair evaluation.

Following the impartial verdict of the judging panel, the 25^th intake was declared the winner, with App. Nimeshika from the same team recognised as the Best debater.

Trophies were awarded to the winners by the Commanding Officer of SLNS Thakshila, who commended the event in his speech, describing it as a great success.
