THE BEACH CLEANING PROGRAMME 2025 OF THE NAVAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The Beach Cleaning Programme 2025 of the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) took placed on Saturday, 19th July, from 0700 hrs to 1000 hrs, covering the coastal area from Wellawaththa to Mount Lavinia. The event was led by the Director of Studies, Captain (L) SSH Bandara, with all officers following in formation.

Participants included senior instructors and all instructors of NIT, senior and junior sailors, along with all trainees. The group commenced an endurance walk starting from Dehiwala beach toward Mount Lavinia, and during the return leg, they actively engaged in cleaning the beach.

The effort was met with appreciation from the public, who acknowledged the positive environmental impact.

Upon completing the tasks, physical training instructors facilitated beachside group activities designed to raise morale and strengthen camaraderie among the trainees. The programme concluded with a shared breakfast by all officers, sailors and trainees on the beach. After a warm-down session, all personnel proceeded back to the Naval Institute of Technology.

Overall, the event was deemed a successful and meaningful initiative, fostering teamwork, environmental responsibility, and public goodwill.
