NAVAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY USHERS IN 2026 WITH TRADITION AND UNITY

The Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) traditionally welcomed the dawn of the New Year, marking 1st January 2026 with a ceremony emphasizing camaraderie, gratitude, and national duty.

The day commenced with a communal breakfast at the General Mess, symbolizing the institute's unity. Director of Studies Capt (L) SSH Bandara and Course Coordinator Cdr (E) DP Ferdinandus joined all officers, senior and junior sailors, civilian staff and trainees for the meal. The spread featured traditional Sri Lankan New Year fare, including kiri bath (milk rice), kawum and an assortment of other sweets, fostering a festive and shared atmosphere.

The formal program was initiated by Chief Instructor MCA MGSS Gamage.Following the opening, the microphone was handed to LCdr KAB Ajantha, who extended heartfelt New Year wishes to the entire assembly. A highlight of the gathering was an appreciation gesture by the NIT crew towards civilian worker Mr. Chandana Pushpakumara, who was presented with a gift by Capt (L) SSH Bandara in recognition of his service.

Subsequently, the assembly moved to the parade ground for a solemn official ceremony. After the hoisting of the national flag, the Director of Studies read out the government oath, which was then recited in unison by all personnel.This act reinforced their collective commitment to the nation.

Following the ceremonies, the members of the NIT exchanged warm New Year greetings before dispersing to resume their normal duties, carrying the spirit of a hopeful and united beginning into 2026.
