On 8th January 2026, Naval Institute of Technology Grounds - In a spectacular display of skill and sportsmanship, the 25th Intake team emerged victorious in the 2026 Inter-Division Cricket Tournament, defeating the seasoned Senior Sailors team in a highly anticipated final match.
The tournament, a highlight of the institute's sporting calendar, culminated today after a series of fiercely contested matches. The Senior Sailors and the 25th Intake proved to be the standout teams of the competition, earning their well-deserved places in the final after impressive performances across five preliminary matches.
The final was a nail-biting encounter, with both teams demonstrating exceptional talent and strategic play.
Ultimately, the dynamic and energetic 25th Intake squad held their nerve to clinch the championship title. The Senior Sailors team fought valiantly and were deservedly named the Runners-Up, their experience and skill earning them great respect.
The prestigious awards ceremony was graced by the presence of the Director of Studies, Capt (L), SSH Bandara,who officiated as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by the Sports Officer, LCdr (L) ELA Maduranga.
In a fitting conclusion to the tournament, the coveted 'Best Cricketer of the Series' trophy was awarded to App TIS Pieris of the 25th Intake. This award recognized his outstanding all-round performance, consistency, and match-winning contributions throughout the championship. The Chief Guest, Capt (L) SSH Bandara, congratulated both finalists and praised all participants for their discipline, teamwork, and commitment to the spirit of the game. He emphasized the importance of such tournaments in fostering camaraderie, physical fitness, and leadership qualities among future naval officers. LCdr (L) Maduranga commended the Sports Committee for organizing a flawless event.
